Expeditionary Water Purification System

The Highland Engineering Inc. (HEI) Expeditionary Water Purification System (EWPS) is a small lightweight water purifier capable of supporting multiple mission types. The EWPS is a vehicle transported system designed to provide potable water at a production rate of over 15 gal/hr from virtually any water source. Water produced meets all standards for field use. The unit operates from multiple power sources including vehicle, 120 VAC man portable generators and solar. All components of the system are stored within rugged carry and transport cases.

Water is drawn from the source via the Submersible Intake Pump (SIP) and supplied to the Filtration Module (FM). The user has multiple deployment options for the SIP – and the FM can be located up to 100’ from the water source.

In the FM the water is filtered through two bag filters removing sediments that could harm the system. The user monitors the effectiveness of the pre-filters on the FM via a differential pressure gage which indicates when cleaning is necessary.

From the FM, water is discharged to the Reverse Osmosis Pump Module (ROPM). The ROPM is the heart of the system and provides for system control. In the ROPM, water is pressurized and delivered to a bank of Reverse Osmosis Elements on the FM where the dissolved solids in the water are separated and potable water is produced. The user controls motor speed, system pressure and monitors the water flow rates on easily accessible control panels on both the FM an ROPM

The operator dispenses the produced water into a suitable container and performs batch chlorination of the produced water in accordance with standard procedures.

The EWPS contains all equipment necessary for the user to test the quality of the produced water.

The EWPS is powered by a variety of power sources. The user can power the system via included batteries, via a NATO Slave receptacle or via 120 VAC shore power.

The HEI EWPS offers the user almost infinite product water control. Product water production is a combination of many factors including water source, pump speed and system pressure. All of these factors can be adjusted up to the maximum power available to provide for the most water production.
